
Avant-Garde [Unreal engine 4]
Created using Unreal Engine 4. Was first developed as a personal project to showcase an autonomous turn-order system and beat-combo system, but eventually became my Senior Thesis project and is now an eternal passion project. Players must time their button presses to the beat of the song (or the beat of a specific instrument) to perform a Beat Combo, damaging the enemy. The game received top marks for the amount of progress I was able to make in only 16 weeks. Clearly the game is still very early on, but is mostly used as a testing grounds for my Unreal Engine skillset to flourish and grow.
Armiger [rpg maker mv]
Created using RPG Maker MV for my RPG Theory class. Game was created with special attention to a job points system, narrative design, and stat balancing. Players earn Job Points (JP) in battles, and can spend them to have characters learn new abilities based on their current level. Game contains over 60 pages of script and optional side quest dialogue. I also focused on encounter design to make fights unique; every enemy has a specific weakness to exploit so you can do more damage to them, as well as abilities that are tailor-made to challenge the player in specific ways.
Curse of cordellia [rpg maker mv]
Created using RPG Maker MV for my RPG Theory class. This game was a result of a one-week design sprint; I focused heavily on a simple yet compelling narrative, and a mix-and-match skills system. Players could equip accessories which gave them access to new skills, as well as gaining certain buffs. There is also a focus on simple puzzle solving, with attention given to time and scope for the project.
dear the buccaneer [text adventure]
Created using a text adventure website for my Game Design class. I wanted to focus on choice-based decision trees combined with a comedic tone. The game fixated on absurdism and interpretation; the story progressed on how the player interpreted Dear the Deer as a character and what he would likely act based on that player’s projection of Dear. The game has since become one of the top rated comedy games on the website, having been played over 1,000 times with over 700 downloads.
