Remember

(2013)

Remember follows the journey of Brent and Patrick, who discover they aren't who they think they are. After a chance encounter, the two meet up again after seven years--although they have no recollection of each other before then. They soon discover they had their memories erased but don't know why. I wrote this story while I was a sophomore in high school for National Novel Writing Month, and published it before my junior year.

Virulence

(2017)

Virulence: An Infectious Card Game combines biology concepts and card-collection action into an exciting tabletop game. I wrote the rules for Virulence while I interned at Genius Games, and I helped design the Two-Player Variant. I was also a key playtester throughout the entire project; I played from the first iteration to the final product. I helped manage the Kickstarter, which raised over $23,000.

Victims: Part 1

(2017)

In Victims: Part 1, a group of orphans band together and attempt to survive in the harsh environment the world has become--the aftermath of a world gone cold. I wrote Victims over the course of five years. For the cover I commissioned local artist, Lauren Poitras, who also provided promotional images for the Kickstarter, which raised $2,200. This self-published book has sold over 200 copies and garned a sequel, aptly titled Victims: Part 2.

Cytosis: A Cell Biology Game teaches biology concepts, while also being an engaging and strategic board game. I helped write and edit the rules, and was one of many key playtesters. I played through many versions and helped iterate the game's design. I also assisted in the writing for the Kickstarter campaign which raised almost $400,000.

Subatomic

Subatomic: An Atom Building Game is a deck building card game about particle physics and chemistry. Highly strategic enough to engage an adult gamer, yet intuitive enough for kids to play at home or in the classroom. I helped make the rules more succinct, and greatly helped in iterating the game's many designs. The game raised over $265,000 on Kickstarter.

Victims: Part 2

Victims: Part 2 is a young adult dystopian science fiction story following the events of Victims: Part 1. A mysterious device known as the Anima is being used by a group of orphans to take down the tyrannical Congress in this post-apocalyptic tale. Victims: Part 2 was written between 2019-2021 and was successfully Kickstarted, raising $1,555. Lauren Poitras returns, creating art for the book cover and additional promotional art pieces.

Projects in Development

Avant-Garde

Avant-Garde is a Rhythm Turn-Based JRPG being developed in Unreal Engine 4 in Preston's spare-spare time. Avant-Garde strives to achieve beat-based combat where the player attacks to the beat of a specific song or a specific instrument.

This game is very early in development and is nowhere near completion. However, periodic updates and builds can be found on the GAMES page of this portfolio.
